Since the new year is only a few days away, I thought I’d do a post about what I have and haven’t achieved this year, and what I hope to achieve in 2017!
I’m pretty proud of the progress I have made this year and am looking forward to continuing achieving more next year to be the best person I can be.

This time last year I had returned from an amazing month-long trip to six European countries, and upon returning I was super depressed and desperate to leave a job I hated and do something more interesting. I ended up leaving at the end of June this year to return to study from July. I also wanted to study something practical – something that would help me to get a relevant job, unlike my arts degree.
I decided on Vet Nursing but had to do a general animal care course as a prerequisite. It was a super easy course – only high school level and I came out with an A+. Less than two weeks after finishing I started work at a kennel, which I am really enjoying. The other part that interests me about becoming a Vet Nurse is to do volunteer working holidays to different countries and work with a range of animals, combining two of my favourite things: travel and animals, obviously! I know this qualification isn’t needed for most volunteer working holidays, but there are some that do – such as desexing in the Cook Islands.
I haven’t done a whole lot this year, mostly because returning to study means money is more limited. I did get to go to Rarotonga, Cook Islands, to see one of my best friends get married, which was amazing.
I have also returned to blogging. While in Europe, my blog was more of a personal account so I wouldn’t forget anything. Now I’m trying to turn it into something better. It’s a work in progress and will be for awhile.
I’m happy I read 52 books throughout the year. I mostly read fantasy and sci-fi and I love getting right into a new series.
I finished 16 video games, which I’m pleased with because I often half-play games then start on something else, just like with books. I usually play rpgs and action adventure games. I replayed a few old Final Fantasy games that I bought on steam – III, IV, VI and IX most recently.
I have to wait until the end of January to see if I get into Vet Nursing. There are only 20 spots and over 50 applicants. Most annoyingly, the requirements have changed and Animal Care is no longer a prerequisite! I’m not sure what I will do if I don’t get in. My current job is fixed term until the end of February, so if there’s no work for me after that I’m gonna be a bit stuck. Ideally, I will get to study and continue with this job, so fingers crossed!
I am really looking forward to travelling to Bali with my four best friends to celebrate my birthday, which will be a unique and memorable experience.
I do think about selling everything and travelling for as long as I can, but that simply isn’t practical. I have 4 pets, 3 cats and 1 dog, and I would never give them up. They could go into a long-term kennel/cattery but I don’t think that’s very fair on them. I do my best to save and pay off the credit card so I can keep travelling!
A big thank you to everyone who has taken the time to read my blog posts! You encourage me to keep at it and I have so much more that I want to blog about.
I had to share pics of my furbabies:
Thanks for reading!
